Hold Short: Your First Airport Safety Decision
Read the boundary, stop before it, and confirm before crossing
A hold-short marking is a boundary, not a suggestion. In this simulator-only preview, you will practice noticing that boundary, stopping on the correct side, and refusing to cross until the instruction is unmistakable.

What you will learn
- Recognize a runway holding-position sign and pavement marking as a decision point.
- Separate permission to taxi toward a runway from permission to enter or cross it.
- Use a short, calm clarification when an instruction or simulated airport layout is uncertain.
This activity is for home simulation only. It is not flight instruction and cannot replace a current chart, clearance, checklist, or qualified instructor. Keep the aircraft parked in real life.
The solid side of a runway holding-position marking faces the aircraft that must stop. A nearby red sign identifies the boundary. Simulator scenery may be incomplete or outdated.
When a route or instruction is unclear, stop before the boundary. Current official sources and ATC—not this preview—govern any real operation.
Choose the access options that make the same reasoning task usable: enlarge or increase contrast, replace audio with captions or text, use keyboard or remapped controls, type instead of speak callouts, and pause, slow, or replay the simulation. These adaptations do not lower the lesson objective.
For hobby flight simulation only — not real-world flight or ground instruction, operational guidance, or a flight-planning tool. Use your simulator aircraft’s documentation for settings and procedures.
